Melbourne trade supplier expands to include ‘one-stop-shop’ finishing as part of a $million equipment investment upgrade.

A new trade lamination service will start on Monday on the back of the installation of a Sagitta 76 laminating machine at the Mount Waverly plant, supplied by Neopost. According to print entrepreneur, Naresh Gulati, the new business venture is the latest step in a strategy to change how Melbourne printers operate and invest.

It caps a successful first year since he took over The Bindery, as he works towards providing ever more finishing options. He says the acquisition of two Stahl folders from Heidelberg has provided a huge productivity boost.

As part of the re-engineering of the business, Gulati has initiated a poly-wrapping and mailing service. A re-energised saddle-stitching operation has also contributed to a doubling of revenue and a substantial profit increase.

“We’ve had a very good response from printers to our expanded offer that enables them to do more with less. Finishing is one of the largest cost centres for a printer. It’s part of my vision to enable them to change from operating fixed costs to variable costs. It lets printers keep more of their revenue and allows them to plan their exit more easily,” he said.

The Bindery has a strategy to be the one-stop finishing and mailing shop for Melbourne printers. By bringing more operations under one roof and by investing in equipment Gulati believes the fast turnaround will prove attractive to more printers.
