The Chaser co-founders Julian Morrow and Charles Firth will host this year’s Media Super National Print Awards at the Plaza Ballroom in Melbourne.
“The chase for Gold will be foremost in the minds of the industry professionals who gather in Melbourne for the 33rd National Print Awards, so who better than The Chaser to head up the night’s entertainment,” said NPA Chair, Susan Heaney.
“While they may be seen by some as an unusual choice for a night celebrating excellence – after all, their corporate motto is ‘Striving for mediocrity in a world of excellence’ – like most Australians we just love their particular brand of intelligent and irreverent humour and are very much looking forward to the entirely new slant they will inevitably bring to the National Print Awards," said Heaney. “It will be a wonderful chance to catch up with colleagues and friends from around the industry for a fantastic night of fine dining, outstanding entertainment and, of course, celebration of our industry,” said Heaney.
Morrow and Firth both have an extensive body of work that covers everything from news and satire to what Morrow calls ‘the field of public nuisance’.
As well as The Chaser, Morrow founded joke production company Giant Dwarf. He has written for TV programs including The Election Chaser, CNNNN, The Chaser’s War on Everything, The Hamster Wheel, The Unbelievable Truth, Media Circus and The Checkout, which he reports have not lost several major Australian and international TV comedy awards but also earned him one criminal conviction and several near-misses. He moved into production with Andrew Denton’s AFI nominated CNNNN and now runs The Chaser’s own production company.
Firth, a regular contributor to both The Monthly and GQ Australia, authored the bestselling book, American Hoax and was nominated for a the ‘Most Outstanding Comedy’ at the Logies in 2009 for his comedy documentary for SBS about the US elections, Mr Firth Goes to Washington. As well as a stint as US correspondent for The Chaser’s War on Everything, Firth co-wrote five Chaser Annuals and 89 editions of The Chaser satirical newspaper, wrote and presented for CNNNN, The Chaser Decides and The Election Chaser. Recently, Firth returned to the ‘ground breaking medium of ink on paper’ by founding The Chaser Quarterly, a journal featuring new work from Australia’s top comedy writers.
The 33rd annual Presentation Dinner will take place on Friday 20 May, 2016, at the Plaza Ballroom on Collins Street in Melbourne.
