The Week leaks into Australia
Only weeks until Dennis Publishing's new magazine hits Australian newsstands.
Recognised and published globally, The Week, marks an interesting movement in the Australian media landscape following the closure of Australia's only weekly news magazine, The Bulletin, last year.
Consisting of opinion and commentary on national affairs, business and entertainment, The Week will be managed by editor-in-chief, David Salter and editor Hall Greenland. "It's fair, fast and funny," said Salter. "We're not a conventional news magazine. We take no positions and parade no opinions of our own - only the best of the other media."
The first issue of The Week goes on sale from 31 October for $4.95. In the lead up, Dennis Publishing is hard at work promoting it to readers. But the company does not intend to promote the magazine through print, instead enlisting a word-of-mouth communications strategy by Naked and direct marketing by Mercer Bell.
The infamous Felix Dennis, chairman of Dennis Publishing, and known for his notoriety with Oz magazine, is confident of The Week's future in Australia. "Its unique blend of information, opinion and entertainment has driven its extraordinary growth in the UK and the USA," he said.
"I have no doubt that our Australian edition will work the same magic."
