The winds of change: people moving, leaving, news - 4 October 07
The printing industry has more people coming and going than an airport. This week, Print 21 takes a look at the flurry of changes that has occurred.
Al calls it a day
After more than 22 years service, Printing Industries general manager, South Australia and Northern Territory and national special projects manager, Albert Chizmesya (better known simply as Al), has retired.
Chizmesya (pictured) said he had made the decision after deep consideration and with a great degree of sadness. Ongoing heath problems forced the issue.

“It has been an honour, privilege and a pleasure to serve the membership and the industry; it has been a fantastic journey,” he said.
Printing Industries CEO Philip Andersen, paid tribute to Chizmesya saying he was one of the industry’s well known colourful characters and would be missed not only in South Australia and the Northern Territory, but around the country by the many people he had worked with and come into contact.
“Al is a true character. A staunch advocate for his state members, he has built up immense respect from industrial judiciary members and officials, government ministers and bureaucrats and the many people he came into contact with on the boards and committees he represented Printing Industries on.
“His military background was well known and was a characteristic of his management style which always guaranteed quality, accuracy and timeliness with everything he did.”
Chizmesya was drafted into the army; “the only significant lottery I ever won,” and completed his military career with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
He also received several community service decorations including investiture as a Knight of the Sovereign Order of St John of Jerusalem in 1993, and was appointed Knight Commander in 2005. He is also a Justice of the Peace.
“If there is a residual legacy to my employment with the Association, it is having significantly and materially raised the profile of Printing Industries in the South Australian and Northern Territory Region,” he said.
“I value tremendously the support and friendship of the members, the National, and Regional Councils, and colleagues throughout my period of employment with Printing Industries.”
Mr Chizmesya’s successor is Peter Mansfield who has spent more than 10 years in industry associations representing the newsagency, wine and food processing industries.
“I am looking forward to gaining an understanding of the multi-faceted printing industries,” Mansfield said. “My overall brief is to continue and expand the association’s focus on initiatives that improve the business outcomes for members in an increasingly competitive and technological globalised market,” he said.
MAN Ferrostaal Australia appoints new bindery manager
Paul Lyons takes on the role of general manager, bindery, with responsibility for the full range of MAN Ferrostaal bindery products including MBO,Kolbus, Hunkeler, Herzog & Heymann and Meccanotechnica.
"Traditionally, MAN Ferrostaal has had a very strong line-up of bindery products. I'm looking forward to working with some of the leading manufacturers worldwide in this sector," said Lyons (pictured).

"There's no doubting the quality of the equipment in the portfolio and that needs to be represented to the customer," he added. "It's a matter of getting the name out there and letting people know that these are excellent products and ones that are fully supported locally."
In his new role, Lyons will be seeking to ensure that all the brands in the MAN
Ferrostaal range receives first-class local service and an increased market presence. "This is an exciting time for the bindery sector in the lead-up to Drupa next year and I expect a lot of new products and innovations to start flowing through over the coming months," he said. "My goal is to present these solutions to our customers and help deliver genuine value and productivity gains to the bindery sector."
Lyons comes to MAN Ferrostaal with extensive experience in the bindery sector, most recently with Müller Martini where he held the position of national sales and marketing manager. Prior to that, he worked with Heidelberg and Edwards Dunlop, also in equipment sales including the bindery and finishing sector.
Markus Haefeli, MAN Ferrostaal chief executive officer, said that Lyons was the ideal candidate to fulfill the role of representing the MAN Ferrostaal bindery business. "Paul brings with him a wealth of knowledge in this sector and is highly regarded throughout the industry," he said.
"Paul's role will be to help build up this business as well as bring in new products as required - it's a challenging task but one which I know Paul is more than capable of managing with every success."
Georgie turns a new page
After 18 years working in magazines, Georgie Charlish (pictured) has moved on to Adstream where she takes up the role of account services director.

"I decided I wanted to do something new and I was interested in the technology that Adstream offered to the industry," she said.
Charlish has worked as national advertising manager on ACP's Belle magazine along with NSW sales director at Pacific Magazine's titles Home Beautiful, New Idea, TV Week and That's Life. This is a world away from the technology and software that she's now involved in, but Charlish says there are still some similarities between this and her previous roles.
"I'm still in the media advertising industry," she explained. "The transition has been pretty smooth - I've gone from selling one product to another."
