The winds of change; people moving, leaving, news: 8 May 2008
The printing industry has more people coming and going than an airport. This week, Print 21 takes a look at the flurry of changes that's occurred.
GEON team's vision for the future
Tony Onsley and Lawrence Allum are among GEON's latest recruits. The general manager, business development and strategy and marketing and communications manager respectively, both agree that the dynamics of the company made it an appealing place to work.
"GEON has the best people, a unique market offering and is a business on the move," said Allum.

As general manager, business development and strategy, Onsley (left)'s role involves developing future strategies for the company, executing these strategies through business models and working with prospective and existing clients.
"There's an enormous opportunity to reshape the industry by creating a truly integrated solution provider," he said.
Allum (below)'s responsibilities focus around facilitating the group's marketing needs, managing campaigners and engaging stakeholders. "It is a holistic marketing management position that reaches across Australia and New Zealand," he said.

"It's very rewarding to work with such a progressive management team."
Heidelberg expands management board
Stephan Plenz joins the Heidelberg's management board.
The appointment will take effect from July 1, 2008. Over the past 14 years, Stephan Plenz (pictured) has held various senior positions at Heidelberg. He was appointed manager of the Wiesloch-Walldorf site in April 2006, and is responsible for global production.
The decision has also been taken to reorganise the roles and responsibilities of the four management board members.

The chairman of the management board, Bernhard Schreier, will now focus on the strategic development of Heidelberg, acquisitions, communications, and compliance. He also retains his role as Personnel Director.
Responsibility for sales, which was previously held by Bernhard Schreier, now passes to Dr. Jürgen Rautert, who will also continue to oversee customer and market-focused activities, product management, and marketing, and will drive forward expansion in the fields of services and consumables.
As the newly appointed member of the Management Board responsible for technology, Stephan Plenz will be in charge of research and development, production, and purchasing. In this role, he will work to further expand production capacities in China and develop international sourcing.
There will be no structural changes in the finances sector. In addition to his usual responsibilities, CFO Dirk Kaliebe will also be responsible for the planned measures aimed at boosting efficiency.
"We have ambitious goals, which the Supervisory Board supports. That is why it has approved the expansion of the Management Board," explained Bernhard Schreier, Heidelberg CEO. "By reassigning Management Board responsibilities, we are underpinning our programs for business expansion. We want to drive forward expansion in the fields of services and consumables, further enhance the international character of production and sourcing, effectively implement efficiency-enhancing programs, and increase our attractiveness to the capital market."
Bill jumps on board Ligare
Bill Mackarell has spent the last 39 years in the publishing industry so his appointment to the Ligare board should come as no surprise.
Mackarell (pictured below) began his career as marketing manager for John Wiley & Sons, later moving into professional publishing as the managing director of The Law Book Company (LBC). Here he oversaw a number of acquisitions that developed LBC as part of the Thomson Group.

Currently sitting on a range of boards in different industries, Mackarell is a past president and life member of the Australian Publishers' Association. Now, he will be an active member of the Ligare board, supporting strategy development and an external view to ensure that Ligare's development continues.
Welcoming Mackarell to the board, Cliff Brigstocke, chief group executive officer of Knox Print Media Group said: "Bill will be an active member of the Ligare board supporting strategy development and providing a strong external view to ensure Ligare's exciting development continues," he said.
