Thunder Press rolls into Spectrum Printing
Spectrum Printing, under the control of David Elliot, specialises in four-colour process and pantone-colour printing and has already signed off on the purchase of Thunder Press. All of the assets and goodwill have been acquired with Spectrum currently in the process of shifting the equipment over to its facility in St Leonards.
Thunder Press was a traditional commercial offset operation situated in western Sydney suburb of Seven Hills, owned and operated by directors Ian Kenny, Norm Byron and Allan Wallas. Its equipment included two two-colour small offset presses that were run alongside a half-sheet six-colour machine, along with the standard range of finishing equipment.
An industry source points to the sale of Thunder Press as reflective of a common problem faced by the industry, with businesses that own previous-generation technology faced with the dire choice of either struggling to keep up with their hi-tech competitors or selling off their assets at a bargain basement price.
Spectrum Printing has served the Sydney industry since 1996 and emphasises its ability to perform flexible 'on-time' services for its clients. The company also points to its environmental credentials as a differentiator and uses a waterless process that eliminates the dampening systems used in conventional printing. This involves the use of waterless plates, specially formulated waterless inks and press equipment outfitted with a temperature control system.
