Top print bosses still bring in the big bucks
There is still money to be made in print, according to a recent study of earnings from those within the media and entertainment industries, which saw PMP’s Richard Allely and Salmat’s Grant Harrod take a place in the top 40 earners.
The study, conducted by Neil Shoebridge in the Australian Financial Review, listed Austar’s John Porter as the highest earner with $5,265,986. Fairfax’s Brian McCarthy, who was promoted to chief executive in December 2008, was the highest print-related earner, with APN’s Brendan Hopkins, who announced his departure from the company this year, at number eight.
Coming in at lucky number 13, PMP’s Richard Allely, (pictured) who will address this month’s CEO Forum, saw his wage skyrocket to $2,085,074. According to the article, Allely’s remuneration increased by 193.2 per cent, due to both an $888,451 cash bonus and a $275,063 share-based bonus. Last year, Allely only ranked at number 53.
A little further down at number 21 was Salmat CEO, Grant Harrod, who joined the company in April last year, and earned $1,636,688.
Fairfax’s CEO of print and logistics and SWUG president, Bob Lockely, was a fresh face on the list. Not making last year’s list, he emerged this time round at number 35, with a reported wage of $960,334.
The AFR, which is published by Fairfax Media, excluded rival News Corp from the list as most of its revenue and earnings do not come from within Australia. It will list the 80 highest paid executives from the media and entertainment sector here on Thursday.
