Burwood Press's two Roland B2 offset presses, plus a variety of finishing equipment, will go on sale via Ascent Partners' online auction site on October 25-26.
The Sydney printing company sold up to Rawson Print Co in August, and its excess machinery will be auctioned on the Print Machinery Auctions website. "All the gear is basically excess to Rawson Graphics’ requirements – it’s often the case that when you sell a business, the buyers have their own equipment. In nearly all cases, the people buying printing businesses are other printers," said Richard Rasmussen from Ascent Partners.
Two 1998-model Roland 306 six-colour offset presses will be on sale, one of which has an attached perfecting unit. Also offered in the auction is a Muller 1509 saddle stitcher; a Polar cutting system; all buckle folding machines (T800 and T55), one of which includes an RFID device; GTO single and two colour presses (with Vern); and ancillary equipment. "I think this auction will get plenty of interest, there’s some very good-quality gear there. The equipment hasn't done a lot of work, considering its age, and it’s been well-maintained," Rasmussen said.
Rasmussen encourages any interested buyers to come to the inspection day on October 20 between 9am and 3pm, and hopes Burwood's former owners will do well from the sales. "Burwood Press was a fairly large and well-respected half-sheet-size printer, which had traded for more than forty years. They got to the point where it was time to retire, did well with the business sale, and hopefully they can do well with the equipment auction and ride off into the sunset," Rasmussen said.
