Two Sides Australia to launch in January

Local version of the UK-based print and paper promotion scheme will replace the ‘Paper part of every day’ campaign under the auspices of APIA and Printing Industries.

The new scheme will utilize the collateral and infrastructure of the international organisation while enlisting support from Australian printing and paper companies. The new body will be administered by Printing Industries and focus on the entire graphic communications supply chain.

According to John Walker, managing director, Sappi Australia and vice-chairman of APIA (Australian Paper Industry Association), the decision to wind up ‘Paper part of every day’ came as a result of the steering committee believing that the campaign was simply “re-inventing the wheel. While it did some good at the time, we felt it would be more effective if we joined with Two Sides,” he said.

Two Sides convenor, Martyn Eustace, will visit Australia in October when the official announcement will be made. The organisation has recently expanded to the USA. It has developed a unique and growing collection of material to help bolster the case for paper and printing as sustainable resources.

The move to bring the industry’s promotion campaign under the umbrella of Printing Industries makes sense, according to Bill Healey, CEO. “Many of the campaign supporters are already our members and it is a natural progression for us to provide a secretariat. It is also important in trying to broaden the support base for the campaign,” he said. “We want to make sure printing and paper is seen as part of the modern information and communication industry.”

Bernard Cassell, former managing director of CPI and founder of ‘Paper part of every day’ terminates his official involvement with the organisation at the end of September.
