Vega Press gains another green gong

Vega Press wins Glen Waverley Sustainable Business in World Environment Day Awards.

The Notting Hill-based business, known for its green ethos, stepped into the limelight at the Civic Centre last week to take out the Sustainable Business Award.

According to the World Environment Day website, Vega Press was chosen for being a leader in running a successful business, whilst reducing their impact on the environment. “They have achieved excellent results in waste reduction and increased their recycling rates. The business has also influenced others, convincing their suppliers to change their practices by questioning their environmental credentials,” said the website.

Manager, Rob Nugent (pictured), sees the award (the second which the company has won this year) as a triumph. “It was a surprise and a great honour to be recognised in the local community,” he said.

Nugent also believes that the award is a win not only for Vega Press, but the printing industry as a whole. “It is evidence that the printing industry is sustainable and a genuine media alternative that is friendly to the environment,” he said. “People should take notice of that.”

He remains committed to promoting print’s positive “People don’t realise how much energy and damage you can do by doing everything on computers, compared to dealing with printed products which are pretty much all recyclable,” Nugent said. “We need to get rid of the image that we [the printing industry] are all about cutting down trees.”
