Versamount keeps Colourbox on a roll

New Zealand-based large format digital printing company, Colourbox thinks outside the square with purchase of roll panel designer and manufacturer, Versamount.

The two companies, both located in Albany, share many of the same customers; so when the opportunity came up to buy the business in December last year, Colourbox’s general manager, Peter Dawson, decided to act on the opportunity.

“I’ve known the Versamount product for 15 years now and it was a nice fit for our existing offering,” Dawson said of Versamount’s coreflute board.

“We want to take Versamount’s product well beyond the existing customers and move into the direct print market with flatbed inkjet and screen printing, which the business has not targeted before.”

Colourbox specialises in niche products, such as 3D and lenticular printing and recognised that Coreflute had the potential to work well with Versamount.
“With the Versamount roll panel, curves can be introduced into designs,” Dawson said.

“The roll panel can be either printed directly with screen printing or a flatbed inkjet printers or can have a graphic print mounted to the board.”

Moving the Versamount plant to Colourbox’s Albany premises, the staff are now responsible for working across both areas. Dawson sees this move into once unchartered territory as a promising development.

“Opportunities abound outside of the graphic arts industry and include packaging, protection of valuable property, protection of boat decks, forestry and horticulture,” he said.
