Victoria gets into the picture with PICA

It might not be held until 19 October, but the event has been a long time in the making and the groundwork has been firmly laid for what is expected to be a night of nights for those in Melbourne.

"Already, our award categories have bee finalised and preparations are well underway for an event which, we believe, will rival the Oscars for entertainment and glamour," said Ron Paterson of Printing Industries.

The gala event has been planned to coincide with the close of the LIA national conference in Melbourne and will be held at the Grand Hyatt. According to Paterson, the PICA awards will celebrate and showcase the cream of the state's printing industry. "The PICA competition will recognise the achievement of excellence in print in Victoria during the 12 months from 1 September 2006, while the gala awards dinner will form a new centrepiece for the industry's Victorian calendar," he said.

Paterson told Print 21 earlier this year that the Victorian PICAs would not pose a threat to the National Print Awards, recently held in Sydney during PrintEx and that he hoped the two could work in conjunction with one another.

Entry forms and further details of the event will be announced over the coming weeks.
