WA printer bets on back loading for sign growth
Perth-based Bokay Group is leveraging Western Australia’s first HP Scitex FB7600 industrial printer to land major national print contracts.
According to Bob Meade, managing director of Bokay Group, negotiations with multi-national companies started before installation has even commenced. He estimates the press will increase the company’s turnover by 20% in the first year and up to 40% overall.
“We have already won a contract to supply point of sale and other retail signage for a leading global consumer brand that has pre-qualified us as a preferred supplier based on the installation of the HP Scitex FB7600,” he says.
Meade feels that the speed of the press and the low freight costs of transporting print from Perth will enable the company to compete with the big east coast players in the digital signage market.
“It may be expensive to get items sent to Perth, but it is very cost effective to ship goods from here to the east coast as trucking companies are looking to fill their back loads. This gives us a competitive edge and enables us to go after the east coast overflow.
“This printer allows us to tap into markets we couldn’t access previously with our existing equipment and is a tremendous complement to our existing kit,” says Meade (pictured).

The Bokay Group has hired a new production manager in preparation for the FB7600s installation and is currently recruiting additional staff in order to expand its finishing department at its Bayswater facility.
Currently Bokay Group, which is a family owned and operated business, employs 22 people. Bob’s wife Kay and their four children are also involved in the business.
