Want $15,000 to see the world…of print?

Would you like a $15,000 grant to go overseas to check out the international printing industry landscape? If so, your time is running out to apply for the first annual GAMAA Industry Overseas Internship Grant, which closes to entries on 2 March.

The $15,000 grant was launched by GAMAA this year with the intention of broadening the body of the Australian print, graphic and media industry, and will be awarded to the applicant whose proposal illustrates the best and most effective use of the funds to achieve this goal.

The successful applicant will be able undertake an overseas internship in a number of sub-sectors of the graphic arts and printing industry, including marketing, new media, print, graphic design, and other disciplines related to the industry.

“It’s a unique opportunity,” says GAMAA executive director, Karen Goldsmith (pictured). “It gives them [applicants] the chance to have a look at cutting-edge technology at an international level and enables them to focus on something of interest to them and their company, and contribute to the body of knowledge for the industry.”

GAMAA will be looking for grant proposals that demonstrate the best use of the funds for the greatest reward, with the winning applicant expected to pen a research paper that will introduce their company and Australia’s printing industry to the world’s best practice and standards, which Goldsmith says is the ultimate goal of the grant competition.

“The greater our knowledge of other markets, trends and practices, the better prepared our Industry will be to manage change and to compete in this global marketplace,” says Goldsmith.

The grant competition is open to people between the ages of 25 and 55 who are employed by a company that actively provides goods or services to the Australian print and graphic arts media industry.
