A top quality line up of young graphic arts talent presented the judges of this year’s contest with a difficult decision.

Four young industry professionals attended the NSW LIA Heidelberg event last night to learn of their fate. As always there can only be one winner to go ahead into the national finals for the LIA scholarship.

They were encouraged in their effort by last year’s winner, Robert Smithers, who went on to become the National Future Print Leader. As part of his scholarship he will be travelling to drupa this month to further his studies.

This year’s winner, Warren Ojeda, was welcomed to the illustrious alumni of the LIA Graduates by Savas Mystakidis, Heidelberg state manager NSW. An apprentice at PrintMedia, Warren spoke in praise of his employer, workmates and his TAFE teachers.

The other candidates were  Russell Bills, Fairfax Media, Hannah Lyons, MIGAS, and Duncan Crisp, BPG – NCP. They represent the future hope of the industry and the ongoing commitment to excellence in print.

Kellie Northwood, who is becoming a one-woman industry power resource in her roles as executive director of Two Sides (TSA), CEO of the Australian Catalogue Association and director of brand agency, Sierra Delta, was the keynote speaker. She gave a spirited presentation on the vital role of printing in the marketing mix, illustrated by notable campaigns.

The awards remain one of the cornerstones of the Association.
