What comes after the budget - Payroll

It's been an annual event at Quote & Print for the last ten years.  We spend Tuesday nights watching the budget then on Wednesday it's time to think about the next payroll update.

The first step is to go to the ATO's website to download the latest tax schedules and statement of formulae.  In the good old days these were mailed to us.  Now we have to go searching ourselves.  They cannot be downloaded until the Governor General has given the royal assent to the legislation.  One year this was delayed and we only had three days to get the new payroll program to all our users.

The next step is to check for any other changes such as changes in superannuation regulations, HECS (which is now called HELP), SFSS or Medicare. Finally we look for all requests from our users for program updates.

Once all this information has been collated programming starts.  There is a few weeks of frantic activity until the new payroll program is ready to ship.

After ten years of updating we reckon our payroll program is the "bees knees".

Here is a check list for you:

* Do you want to have plain paper PAYG Payment Summaries?

* Do you want to reduce your end of year payroll processing to less than 4 hours?

* Do you have problems with Salary Sacrifice?

* Is your existing payroll package not properly supported?

* Are your tax scales out of date and need to be manually over written?

* Do you want to reduce your weekly payroll processing to less than 20 minutes (for 20-30 employees)?

* Do you pay too much to an external company to process your pays?

* Do you wish to automatically create a banking file so you can easily transfer money to your employees' accounts?

* Have you ever needed to get next of kin details in an emergency?

* Have you had disputed pays going back several years and not had the figures to back you up?
