An industry survey has identified the need for proper training as the number one concern amongst print business owners and professionals.
The Printing Industries Association of Australia (PIAA) is conducting two innovative studies aimed at identifying the main priorities of its members and finding out what they’re prepared to pay for association services.
“The first survey results are shaping up exceedingly well and we’re very happy to know that people have an excitement about the future,” said David Leach, President, PIAA.
“But three things came through loud and clear in terms of the top priorities for business owners and professionals. First was training, second was business management consulting and the third priority was access to research and best practice information. This suggests that there is a real appetite for growth in the industry, which is a healthy indicator,” he said.
The second survey, which is still underway, aims to find out the dollar value that industry professionals place on these services and how much they’d pay for a membership to get access to them.
“We’re asking people multi-layered questions about whether they want to pay a one-fee, grab-all format or a basic fee that entitles them to services at preferential rates,” said Leach, who dismissed suggestions that it’s a risky move to ask members what they’d like to pay for PIAA services.
“We need to be engaged in the future. We’ll learn a lot from this and we need to lead with the front foot forward. It’s not risky necessarily for an association to be asking its members what they want, rather than second-guessing. Ultimately it will shape the way the association operates. PIAA has an opportunity to be a lighthouse for the industry and to shine a light on what needs to be done. We’ve gone into this with an open mind and we’re heartened to find that people have optimism for the future of printing,” he said.
