Wide format meets art in Hyde Park

A walk in the park led to an encounter with some top-notch wide format printing for columnist, Andy McCourt.

One of the great things about living in Sydney is the frequent public space festivals, fetes and events. Last weekend our family decided to 'step out' and explore the Sydney Life photographic exhibition, part of the Art & About initiative championed by Sydney Council. The stroll through Hyde Park was rewarded with the vista of 26 stunning photographic images, each 2 x 3 metres, strung along the main boulevard. Taken by mostly unknown photographers, the vinyl-printed displays were pin-point sharp and beautifully colour managed. Your eagle-eyed sleuthing reporter could see immediately they had to be UV inket prints and a bit of digging revealed they were reproduced by Sydney's long-established prolab, Tranny's in Crows Nest, on their VuTek (EFI) Press-Vu machines.

The entire Art & About event is a fantastic celebration of City life and includes dressing up all the town's sombre statues of Cook, Queen Victoria, Wellington and so on; in bright garb and accoutrement. Marvelous stuff, well done Sydney.

You just can't experience this kind of joy on the interenet and LED screens ... well done Trannys too for bringing first rate graphic reproduction to the faces of Sydney town.

Oh, and walking out of Hyde Park, you could be forgiven for thinking another high-profile wide format equipment vendor had sponsored the event ... check the photo and work it out! Maybe next year?
