Win for Woollahra as postal services stay in town

The well-known post office in Sydney’s eastern suburbs of Woollahra may be about to close, but residents have been met with a compromise as Australia Post announced it will provide postal products and services at a local Woollahra retail outlet.

From Monday 7 February customers will be able to purchase postage stamps, Express Post products, Parcel Post satchels and basic packaging products at the Queen Street Newsagency, located at 150 Queen Street, Woollahra, with more services to be introduced in the future.

“We’re pleased that we’ve been able to work with Queen Street Newsagency to achieve an outcome that meets the needs of the community, whilst also enabling us to operate in a more financially sustainable manner,” said executive general manager, retail services, Christine Corbett.

“By moving a range of postal services and products to the newsagency, local residents can continue to access the essential services, and the retailer will get a boost from the increased patronage.”

A full Community Postal Agency would be able to process bill payments made in person by cheque, as well as function as a point for weighing, calculating postage and lodging mail.

Australia Post also advised that the 1,100 Post Office Boxes will remain in their current location. In addition, the existing red and gold street post boxes will remain, and new parcel lockers will be installed alongside the PO boxes to enable customers to access oversized mail articles.
