Currie Group has strengthened its team in Melbourne with the addition of two specialist print veterans to its Labels & Packaging division and Equipment and Consumables unit.
Jon Murray - who began his career in the industry more than 30 years ago as an apprentice printing machinist - has been named Technical Product Manager for Labels & Packaging. He says he's excited to be joining Currie at a time when the company is expanding.
"Currie Group has been growing the L&P division not only through the product range of Omet, AB Graphics, AVT, HP and other partners, but also through internal changes structured around support," said Murray. "I love the industry and even though I have been in it for over 30 years, I am still learning. The opportunity of being involved with HP excited me. Digital will one day be the way of the future, however, conventional is still an integral part of the industry."
Murray brings an extensive knowledge of many facets of the industry.
"Working for a large company when I began my apprenticeship all those years ago, I was introduced to premium capital equipment, consumables, structures and best practices, which I have utilised for my career thus far. In an effort to grow my knowledge and skill set, I have worked on a vast array of equipment, been heavily involved in continuous improvement programs, personal development courses and most importantly, listening and learning from others.
"After 18 years in the production environment, from apprentice to print management, I thought the best way I could help other convertors in the industry become more efficient was to head into sales, where I could help promote best practice through premium capital equipment and consumable products.
Currie also announced that John Towell has joined the company as its new Sales Account Manager for Equipment and Consumables.
"I'm very happy and positive about the move and it's a new challenge that has given me a bit of a new lease on life," said Towell, a print veteran with an extensive resume that includes senior roles at a number of leading graphic arts companies.
"I see Currie as a very progressive company that's on the rise, and the strength of its customer support is something that became very apparent in the interviews, which was very appealing.
"I'll be focused on equipment and consumables, with the exception of digital, so it's ink and plates. It's a very competitive market right now and has been for a number of years and I'm definitely looking forward to the challenge. Currie Group offers great support and its customer focus is a definite advantage in the market."
