The biggest story in print this week was the Print21 report on Ovato getting past the first gate in its restructuring plan, with the court allowing it to present the scheme to its creditors on December 7.

Ovato: biggest story in print this week

Under the plan Ovato will close its Clayton manufacturing site, transfer the printing to Warwick Farm, sell off the presses, make 300 redundancies, ask its creditors to take a 50c in the dollar payment on invoices, and seek to raise $40m from the market.

The second most popular story of the week in print was the Print21 report on the South Australia government forcing all manufacturing to cease, the decision made on the back of a false pizza box Covid story. Printers were angry. The decision was reversed three days later.

And coming in at number three was Print21’s report on Soar Print as it celebrates 100 years this week, the company beginning life when the grandfather of the current managing director, both named Fred Soar, started printing business cards and ferry timetables.
