The biggest story in print this week was the Print21 report on David Currie stepping away from day-to-day responsibilities at Currie Group after 51 years with the company.

Currie will be personally known to a large number of print businesses across Australia and New Zealand, with many of them building their businesses around kit Currie has sold to them over the past half century.

Currie Group has appointed Rob Mesaros as its new CEO, with managing director Bernie Robinson, sales and marketing director Phillip Rennell, labels and packaging director Mark Daws, and finance director Andrew Fitzpatrick making up the senior team. David Currie will continue as chairman.

Second biggest story of the week was the Print21 report on the industry rallying around Adelaide display print business Big Image after the devasting fire, which saw its equipment and stock destroyed. Well known owner Carlo Capogreco and his team are operating from temporary premises, and are expressing their thanks for the support they have received.

Open for entries: National Print Awards

Coming in at number three was the news on the ever popular National Print Awards, sponsored by Media Super, with entries for the 38th iteration of the state and national events opening on Monday. There are 32 categories, as well as Young Executive of the Year and Lifetime Achievement.

Entries are state-based, with the state gold winners going forward to the national awards.

The State PICA events will take place throughout July, with print's night of nights, the National Print Awards, taking place during PacPrint in Melbourne, on the evening of Thursday 30 September.
