The biggest story in the print industry over the past seven days was Print21's report on skyrocketing shipping costs, and their knock-on effect on the cost of paper, board and wide format media, which will all be rising by between three and nine per cent next month.
The nation's two biggest printable materials suppliers, Ball & Doggett and Spicers, say they are unable to absorb the escalting costs any longer, and have no choice but to increase prices. All other suppliers will be in the same boat.
The second biggest story in the ANZ print industry this week was the Print21 report on retail giant Kmart canning its printed catalogues. Kmart follows Coles, which dumped its catalogues in September. Woolworths is currently experimenting, cutting out 1.5 million of its seven million run catalogue, in areas where it has a larger digital engagement.
Coming in at number three on the most read list in the past seven days was the Print21 story on the world-first tie-up between online design leader Canva, and the nation's biggest print franchise group Snap Print & Design.
