Providing a massive boost in digital firepower for the leading ‘for trade’ printing company, Trent Nankervis is commissioning the new B2-size digital press at his expanding site in Sydney.

The new machine from Currie Group joins CMYKhub’s original HP Indigo 10000 at the group’s Victoria site in Melbourne, delivering un-paralleled digital capacity in order to service the demands of its growing clientele of professional printers. In Sydney it joins an existing HP Indigo 5500 as well as a Scodix digital embellisher, both supplied by Currie Group. The increase in digital is part of CMYKhub’s continuing capital investment in technology, which has made it into one of the fastest growing printing enterprises in the country.

There is no more competitive space in the industry than in ‘for trade’ printing and Nankervis is confident that his customers are getting the best value for their money. He makes the point that CMYKhub prices are among the most stable in the industry. “There’s been no increase in the sales price of our standard products in seven years. Margins are always under pressure, and we’re working harder now for what we get. With the cost of inputs going up all the time we have to invest to find new ways of getting efficiencies,” he said.

The investment in HP Indigo is part of Nankervis’ focus on customer service. This along with extreme efficiency is key in CMYKhub’s appeal in order to convince printers to outsource work to the company. A wide range of products is also essential to satisfy demand, and this is where CMYKhub’s diversity of production comes to the fore.

“Australian printers are forced down the path of diversity because of the size of our population. The challenge is about doing diversity well and refining products within that diversity. A commercial printer today must be able to operate within the three printing disciplines of digital, offset and wide format. At CMYKhub we have a fourth discipline of ganged offset printing, which adds further complexity.

“Some people can do well in niche markets, but they are always vulnerable to competition, and then they have nowhere to go. We haven’t always embraced diversity, but we have to because that’s what our customers want,” he said.

According to Phillip Rennell, sales and marketing director, Currie Group, CMYKhub’s growth is a textbook example of how innovative thinking and a willingness to address the changing print market is creating new opportunities. “Trent has always had a clear idea where he wanted to take CMYKhub. From its first site in Melbourne he has expanded it to be the only truly national ‘for trade’ printer. Customer service is his first priority and he’s prepared to invest to make sure he delivers the best in the industry,” said Rennell.
